Las Vegas, April 2010

Another weekend visit to Las Vegas.  Thursday, April 8 to Sunday, April 11, 2010. This time as a late birthday present to see the band AC/DC in concert.  The thought of hearing all of the songs that I grew up with and had never seen them in concert really made for this to be an exciting trip.  We stayed at the Mandalay Bay hotel, actually at the hotel at Mandalay Bay, and had a nice little suite with two queen beds and a fully accessible bathroom with shower.  Unfortunately, the room we got this time had both a tub and a very small stand-up roll in shower that was very difficult to maneuver the shower chair into.  Our room was on the 23rd floor and had a view looking west of the mountains.  I suggest that if you stay at the hotel at Mandalay Bay and need a roll in shower that you specifically request that the bathroom has only a roll in shower and not a tub.  Our stay there in August of 2009 was on the sixth floor in the room had a very large roll in shower and no tub which was much easier for us to use.

As always, I rented the shower chair from Universal Mobility Services.  I forgot to call them before we left so they charged me an additional $25 weekend delivery fee, however, that was a small price to pay for having exactly what I needed delivered within hours of calling.  I highly recommend Universal Mobility Services as I've been using them to rent a shower chair each visit for four years now and have always had a great experience at a reasonable price.

On the plane ride out the tooth but I've been having problems with broke loose a little bit, so Friday morning I had to find a dentist.  Finding a dentist in Las Vegas isn't usually what most people associate with a great time!  Luckily, the concierge at the hotel recommended All Smiles Dental. This really turned out to be a great choice -- in fact when the hotel concierge called at 10 AM on Friday the dentist office offered up an 11 AM appointment and even was willing to send a cab at their expense. I was pretty impressed! We took a wheelchair van taxi over to All Smiles Dental where the dentist fixed up my front tooth at an extremely reasonable cost and I'm still very satisfied the work. All things considered, maybe next time I need a routine cleaning or minor dental work I'll just book a trip to Las Vegas and had to All Smiles Dental on Eastern at Flamingo!

We had the same wheelchair van taxi driver meet us back at the dentist one hour later and I immediately put my new dental work to the test at our Mexican Mecca, the Bonito Michoacan Restaurant. It's located on Decatur and Twain and is an absolute must for us every time we visit Las Vegas. Really terrific food, family owned, they remember us every time and treat us like family -- a really special place!

The weather was very nice and sunny and probably about 80° each day, however, it was extremely windy and everyone knows how much I love wind. So other than my occasional dashes out of the casino to soak up some sun in an alcove where I can shelter myself from the wind, we really didn't get to do any exploring. I had wanted to check out the new City Center with the new Aria casino complex, but with the windy days and cool nights we just didn't get a chance to walk around and see anything new. I had also planned to go eat Dim Sum at the Gold Coast Casino on Saturday morning, but by the time we got up and called they told us that the restaurant was already packed in that they only served to Dim Sum until 3 PM and then closed until dinner. Oh well, next time.
